Condemnation:
341-63. The city shall have the power to condemn prop-
erty of any kind, or interest therein or franchise connected
therewith, in fee or as an easement, within the corporate
limits of the city, for any public purpose. Any activity,
project, or improvement authorized by the provisions of
this charter or any other State law applicable to the city
shall be deemed a public purpose. The manner of the pro-
cedure in case of condemnation proceeding shall be that
established in Article 33-A of the Annotated Code of the
Public General Laws of Maryland (1952 Edition—title
"Eminent Domain").
City Building:
341-64. The city shall have the power to acquire, to ob-
tain by lease or rent, to purchase, construct, operate, and
maintain all buildings and structures it deems necessary
for the operation of the town government.
Protection of City Property:
341-65. The city shall have the power to do whatever
may be necessary to protect city property and to keep all
city property in good condition.
ARTICLE XI
PLANNING AND ZONING
General Purposes:
341-66. The City of Glen Burnie shall have the power
to plan and zone the city with the general purpose of guid-
ing and accomplishing a coordinated, adjusted, and har-
monious development of the city. Among other things, this
planning and zoning authority may be used to promote the
health, safety, morals, order, convenience, prosperity, and
general welfare of the city; to provide for good civic design
and arrangement; to promote the wise and efficient ex-
penditure of public funds; to make adequate provisions for
traffic; to secure safety from fire, panic, and other
dangers; to prevent the over-crowding of land and to avoid
undue concentration of population; and to make adequate
provision for public utilities, water, sewage disposal and
other public requirements.
Powers of the Council:
341-67. The Council shall exercise the planning and zon-
ing of the city.
