ARTICLE II
TOWN COMMISSIONERS
46. (Form of Government) All legislative and execu-
tive powers of the Town shall be vested in three (3) Town
Commissioners to be elected as hereinafter provided.
47. (Qualifications) The Town Commissioners shall
be adult residents of the Town for two years immediately
preceding their election, shall be qualified voters in the
Town, each of whom shall hold or own real estate in said
Town, either individually or as co-owner, of which his
interest shall have an assessed value of Five Hundred Dol-
lars ($500. 00) or more, and for the purposes of this sec-
tion, a co-tenant by the entireties shall be construed to hold
and own a one-half interest.
48. (Term) Each of the Town Commissioners now
holding said office, or his duly qualified successor, shall
hold such office for the term for which he was elected or
appointed. One Town Commissioner shall be elected for
a term of two years at an election to be held on the first
Monday of April in the year nineteen fifty-four. One
Town Commissioner shall be elected for a term of one year
at an election to be held on the first Monday of April in
the year nineteen fifty-five. Three Town Commissioners
shall be elected for terms of two years at an election to be
held on the first Monday of April in the year nineteen
fifty-six. Thereafter three Town Commissioners shall be
elected bi-annually for terms of two years. Each of the
Town Commissioners so elected as aforesaid shall hold
office from the first Thursday in April next succeeding his
election, or until his successor has been duly elected or
appointed and qualified.
49. (Oath of Office) Before entering upon the duties
of his office, each of said Town Commissioners shall
qualify by making the declaration of religious belief and
taking and subscribing to the oath prescribed by the Con-
stitution of Maryland before the Clerk of the Circuit
Court for Queen Anne's County, who shall certify to the
Town Clerk that such oath has been administered, which
certification shall be filed and recorded in the minutes of
the proceedings of the Town Commissioners.
50. (Bonds) And before entering upon the duties of
his office, each of said Town Commissioners shall give
corporate surety bond payable to the State of Maryland in
the penal sum of Five Thousand Dollars ($5, 000. 00) con-
