WHEREAS, there is a conflict between Section 20 of Article 51
of the Annotated Code and Section 323 of Article 1 of the Code
of Public Local Laws, in so far as these sections specify differ-
ent amounts for the compensation of jurors in Allegany
County; and

WHEREAS, this is a matter of great uncertainty and its
speedy correction is highly necessary now, therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land,
That Section 20 of Article 51 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Juries", sub-title "Quali-
fication and Selection of Jurors", as said section was amended
by Chapter 250 of the Acts of 1949, be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

20. (a) Jurors in Anne Arundel County shall receive Six
Dollars per day and in all other counties, except Allegany
County,
Five Dollars per day for each and every day they shall
attend the several courts of this State as jurors and Fifteen
Cents for each mile over five miles for going to and returning
from the court, once in each term, to be paid by the Counties,
respectively, in which courts are held. Jurors in Baltimore
City shall receive such compensation as shall be provided in
the Ordinance of Estimates of said City each year.

(b) It shall be the duty of the County Commissioners of the
several Counties and of the Mayor and City Council of Balti-
more to levy each year a sufficient sum to pay for the compen-
sation of jurors, as provided by this section.

(c) In Allegany County, beginning with the term of Court in
April, 1951, jurors shall receive Six Dollars per day for each
and every day they shall attend a court of this State as jurors;
jurors residing outside the corporate limits of the City of Cum-
berland shall be paid mileage at the rate of five cents per mile
for each mile or fraction thereof actually traveled from day to
day while enroute from their respective homes to the City of
Cumberland, over the nearest practicable route.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 323 of Article
1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edi-
tion), title "Allegany County", sub-title "Jurors", be and it is
hereby repealed.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
