SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1951,

CHAPTER 147

(House Bill 99)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections
39, 40 and 42A of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince
George's County (1943 Edition), being Article 17 of the
Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Prince George's
County, " sub-title "Bladensburg, " as said sections were
enacted by Chapter 341 of the Acts of 1947, increasing the
compensation of the Mayor, the members of the City Council
and the Treasurer of the Town of Bladensburg, and making
this Act subject to a referendum.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land,
That Sections 39, 40 and 42A of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Prince George's County (1943 Edition), being Article
17 of the Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Prince
George's County, " sub-title "Bladensburg, " as said sections
were enacted by Chapter 341 of the Acts of 1947, be and they
are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

39. (Qualifications. ) The Mayor of said town shall be of
legal age, a citizen of the United States, a registered voter in
the Town of Bladensburg, and owner of real property in the
Town of Bladensburg, and assessed upon the assessment books
of the county for real estate in his or her name, whether or not
jointly with spouse, for a year preceding date of election, in an
amount not less than $1, 000. 00, and shall have been an actual
dweller within the limits of said town for not less than two
years next preceding the date of his election. In case the
Mayor ceases to possess any of the qualifications specified in
this section, or is convicted of crime while in office, he shall
cease to be Mayor, and there shall exist a vacancy in said office
to be filled as hereinafter provided. The Mayor shall receive a
