SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and the same is hereby added to
the 1943 Edition of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince
George's County, being Article 17 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland, compiled and edited by Horace E. Flack,
to be known as Section 131-A and to follow immediately after
Section 131 of said Code, to read as follows:
131-A. That the Mayor and Town Council of Brent-
wood, Maryland is hereby authorized and empowered to
borrow on the credit of the Town from time to time such
sum or sums of money, not to exceed at any one time for
the purposes provided herein a total of Fifteen Thousand
Dollars ($15, 000. 00), as may be needed to purchase, erect, con-
struct or enlarge a building suitable for housing the apparatus,
equipment and records of the Brentwood Volunteer Fire De-
partment, Incorporated, with suitable and adequate space and
room provided for the Mayor and Town Council of Brentwood,
Maryland, to hold its meetings and to keep the records of the
Town; said building to be constructed or enlarged under the
supervision of a joint committee of the Mayor and Town Coun-
cil and the Brentwood Volunteer Fire Department, Incorpo-
rated, plans of such construction or enlargement to meet with
the approval of the Mayor and Town Council and with the
Brentwood Volunteer Fire Department, Incorporated, before
proceeding therewith. Upon completion of said building or
enlargement in accordance with approved plans as herein pro-
vided, the Brentwood Volunteer Fire Department, Incorpo-
rated, are hereby authorized and empowered to become sole
trustee of said firehouse, with the exception of the aforemen-
tioned rooms and facilities provided for the Mayor and Town
Council, and as such trustee the Brentwood Volunteer Fire
Department, Incorporated, are vested with the responsibility
of its maintenance, repair and upkeep through funds from the
fire tax provided or otherwise, and with no interference from
the Mayor and Town Council in said supervision, except in the
case of an appeal made to the Mayor and Town Council by the
chief of the Brentwood Volunteer Fire Department or a
majority of active members of said Fire Department under any
unusual circumstances, in which case the decision of the Mayor
and Town Council shall, be final and conclusive. In order to
carry out the provisions of this section, said Mayor and Town
Council of Brentwood, Maryland, are hereby authorized and
empowered to borrow not to exceed Fifteen Thousand Dollars
($15, 000. 00) on the full faith and credit of the Mayor and Town
Council of Brentwood and to issue bonds or certificates of in-
debtedness for such borrowed money bearing interest at a rate
not to exceed six per centum (6%) per annum, payable semi-
