"Roads, " as said section was amended by Chapter 448 of the
Acts of 1941, relating to the requirements for motor vehicles
used for the commercial transportation of school children
in Allegany County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land,
That Section 561A of Article 1 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Allegany
County, " sub-title ''Roads, " as said section was amended by
Chapter 448 of the Acts of 1941, be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

561A. (a) No person, firm, corporation or association own-
ing and operating within Allegany County any school bus for
the transportation of Allegany County school children, shall
permit the number of passengers in any such bus to exceed
its seating capacity by more than twenty-five per cent (25%)
in a bus with a center aisle, or by more than ten per cent
(10%) in a bus without a center aisle; provided, however, that
the limitation as to the number of passengers shall not apply
within a mile radius of the school to or from which such school
children are carried. In determining the seating capacity of
a school bus, thirteen (13) inches shall be the allowable aver-
age rump width for each passenger. On and after June 1st,
1941, no new school bus shall be placed in operation in Allegany
County unless the entire body shall be of steel construction
and, when any school bus at present in operation ceases to be
used, no bus shall be placed in operation in its place unless
its entire body be of steel construction.

(b) On and after June 1st, 1941, no school bus shall be
operated in Allegany County unless it be equipped with an
outside mirror or mirrors so that the driver of a loaded bus
can have a clear vision to the side and rear of the bus. There
shall be painted on the inside of the bus body, directly over
the windshield, to the right of the driver, the maximum seating
capacity of the bus, the letters and figures to be of such size
as to enable them to be easily read by the passengers.

(c) This section shall apply and be effective as to all motor
vehicles used for the commercial transportation of school
children in Allegany County, whenever they are operating on
a trip exclusively for the purpose of transporting school
children.

(d) Any person, firm, corporation or association violating
any provision of this section shall be deemed guilty of a mis-
demeanor and, upon conviction, shall be punished by a fine of
