AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 398
of Article 1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1930 Edition), title "Allegany County", sub-title "Lonacon-
ing", as said section was amended by Chapter 73 of the Acts
of the Special Session of 1948, increasing the compensation of
the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Lonaconing.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 398 of Article 1 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930) Edition), title "Allegany County, "
sub-title "Lonaconing, " as said section was amended by Chap-
ter 73 of the Acts of the Special Session of 1948, be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
398. They may allow the said bailiff and other police officers
and Town Clerk such reasonable compensation for their
services as they may, by ordinance, provide, payable in equal
monthly installments; the Treasurer shall receive a salary of
fifty dollars per annum; the Mayor shall receive a salary of
[one] two hundred dollars per annum, and each Councilman
shall receive the sum! of [two] five dollars for each meeting
of the Council at which his attendance is recorded upon the
minutes, provided such compensation shall not be paid for
more than twenty such meetings in each year.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all of the members elected to each of the two Houses
of the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
