AN ACT to add a new sub-section to Section 11 of Article
72 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947 Supple-
ment), title "Oysters and Clams, " said new sub-section
to be known as Sub-section (k) and to follow immedi-
ately after Sub-section (j) of said Section 11, authoriz-
ing the Department of Tidewater Fisheries to set aside
for each Tidewater Co. public high school a tract of
submerged tidewater lands to be used for the purpose
of experimental oyster farming or for the cultivation
of other shellfish in conjunction with regular scholastic
conservation studies therein.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new sub-section be and it is hereby added to Sec-
tion 11 of Article 72 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1947 Supplement), title "Oysters and Clams, " said new
sub-section to be known as Sub-section (k) and to follow
immediately after Sub-section (j) of said Section 11, and
to read as follows:
11. (k) High School Oyster Studies—The Department
of Tidewater Fisheries is authorized to set aside for each
public TIDEWATER high school not more than twenty
FIVE acres of submerged BARREN tidewater lands to be
used for the sole purpose of experimental oyster farming
or for the cultivation of other shellfish in conjunction with
regular scholastic conservation studies. The procedure of
setting aside said areas shall be as provided in Sub-section
(d) of this section and the area so designated shall be
marked in the manner provided in Section 12, Sub-section
(o) of this Article. Said High Schools may introduce and
use modern methods of planting, harvesting or marketing
the fishery products so cultivated without regard to any
of the restrictive provisions set forth in this Article. IF
AFTER THREE YEARS THE SUBJECT SCHOOL HAS
NOT USED THE SUBMERGED LANDS BARREN BOT-
TOM FOR THEIR STUDIES OR IF THE STUDIES ARE
DISCONTINUED THE LANDS SHALL REVERT TO
THE STATE.
