ciation and two persons to the Board of Managers of any
such hospital in the Fifth District of Anne Arundel County.
WHEREAS, the Anne Arundel General Hospital, owned and
operated by the Annapolis Emergency Hospital Association, a
Maryland corporation, bona fide organized and existing for
the purpose of maintaining and operating a non-profit hospital
impressed with a public interest in the County of Anne
Arundel, has been unable to keep pace with the growth of
population in Anne Arundel County; and
WHEREAS, the size of the physical plant of said Hospital
makes it impossible for the residents of Anne Arundel County
to receive proper and adequate hospital treatment within the
boundaries of their home county and further results in over-
crowded conditions in said Hospital; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Managers of the Hospital, recogniz-
ing the urgent need for added facilties to care for the hospital
needs of the people of Anne Arundel County, caused to be in-
stituted a campaign among the people of said County to raise
funds for an addition to the Hospital; and
WHEREAS, such building fund campaign was successful in
that the people of the said County did subscribe the sum of
$516, 000. 00 to the fund, and further, the Summerfield Baldwin,
Jr., Foundation paid the cost of such campaign and did also
subscribe the sum of $175, 000. 00 for such addition and the
said Foundation did further set aside a Trust Fund in the
amount of $200, 000. 00, the income from the Trust Fund to be
used for the maintenance and support of such addition; and
WHEREAS, there has been paid into such building fund to
date a total of $471, 000. 00 and it is believed that at least
$170, 000. 00 more will be paid on remaining subscriptions to the
effect that Annapolis Emergency Hospital Association has in
hand funds and subscriptions totaling $641, 000. 00 to be used
solely for addition and alterations to the Hospital plant and
facilities; and
WHEREAS, it is believed that in order to adequately serve the
hospital needs of the people of Anne Arundel County the
present Hospital of about 65 beds should be increased to about
140 beds with all necessary adjuncts and equipment; and
WHEREAS, experienced and competent architects have esti-
mated that the total cost of the necessary addition, alterations,
etc., will be about $1, 250, 000. 00, or more, and the Annapolis
