on conviction before a trial magistrate of the City of Fred-
erick, be liable to a fine not exceeding one hundred dollars
($100. 00), and upon failure to pay the same with costs
shall be committed to the Jail of Frederick County for a
period not exceeding ninety days, unless the person con-
victed shall pay said fine and costs before the day limited
in the commitment, in which case he shall be released.
Any person who shall give false testimony before either of
said boards shall be liable to be prosecuted for perjury.
The board of aldermen shall report its findings to the
police commissioners.
POLITICAL ACTIVITY
200. The policemen shall not, under penalty of dis-
missal, at any time take any part in political campaigns
or elections, except as in the performance of their regular
duty as to public safety and law and order. The policemen
or constables shall not be members of any political club or
organization, nor shall they be permitted to contribute to
or solicit for any contributions for any political organiza-
tions, campaigns, primaries, or elections. Provided, how-
ever, that if any policeman becomes a candidate for politi-
cal office the board of aldermen may grant him a leave of
absence without pay, for not more than three months prior
to the pending elections.
PERFORMANCE OF DUTIES
201. The policemen shall promptly and efficiently per-
form all of the duties now or hereafter required of them
as provided by general or local law or in the ordinances of
the City of Frederick or rules and regulations passed in
pursuance therewith. The police department is hereby
directed to cooperate and exchange information with any
other police department, or authority with police force,
both within and without the State, and with the federal
police forces for the purpose of achieving greater success
in preventing and detecting crimes and apprehending
criminals.
COUNTY SHERIFF
202. The sheriff of Frederick County shall receive and
safe keep in the county jail all persons who shall be com-
mitted thereto for a breach of any ordinance of the city,
according to the tenor of the commitment, and in the same
manner and under the same regulations as persons com-
mitted for a violation of the laws of the state.
