VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANIES
203. The City of Frederick may make use of the serv-
ices of volunteer fire companies. Under the supervision
of the mayor, the captains of the volunteer fire com-
panies, in person or through subordinates, shall do the fol-
lowing:
(a) They shall supervise the extinguishment of fires
and the maintenance of all fire engines, hose, and other
apparatus. They may compel all persons to assist fire-
men in extinguishing fires and in preserving and protect-
ing the property thereby exposed to damage. They shall
order all idle, suspicious, or disorderly persons away from
the vicinity of any fire.
(b) They shall inspect all buildings, residences, dwell-
ings, and other structures for fire hazards as prescribed
by the board of aldermen and do such other things as are
necessary for the prevention of fire.
FINANCIAL GRANTS
204. The City of Frederick shall have the power to
make grants of money to any volunteer fire companies in
the City of Frederick to defray the expenses of the com-
panies, to purchase and maintain equipment, to maintain
fire houses, to pay salaries, or for any other purposes the
city deems proper. Each volunteer fire company shall sub-
mit a financial report to the city at least once a year, or
more often if the city requires it, containing such informa-
tion as the city shall require, but showing at least the
amounts of money received from the city, all amounts ex-
pended and for what purposes, and the balance on hand
at the time the report is submitted.
ARTICLE XVII
MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS
OATH OF OFFICE
205. The following persons, before entering upon the
duties of their offices, shall take oath before the clerk of
the Circuit Court for Frederick County: The mayor and
aldermen; the city register and collector of taxes; the mem-
bers of the Board of Supervisors of Elections; and such
other officers and employees of the city as the board of
aldermen may require. Such other municipal officers and
employees as may be required to take an oath of office shall
be sworn in by the mayor. The form of the oath shall be
