same manner and with the same personnel, as far as prac-
ticable, as regular city elections.
PRESERVATION OF BALLOTS
70. All ballots used in any primary, special, or regular
city election shall be preserved for at least six months
from the date of the election.
VACANCIES IN ELECTIVE OFFICES
71. In case of a vacancy for any reason in the board
of aldermen, the board of aldermen within four weeks of
the occurrence of the vacancy shall elect some qualified
pired term., PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT THE PER-
SON SO CHOSEN TO FILL SUCH VACANCY SHALL
BE OF THE SAME POLITICAL PARTY AS THE
ALDERMAN WHOSE PLACE IS TO BE FILLED.
In the case of a vacancy for any reason in the office
of mayor, the board of aldermen within four weeks
of the occurrence of the vacancy shall elect some quali-
fied person to serve as mayor for the remainder of
the unexpired term. In case of a vacancy for any reason
in the office of city register and collector of taxes, the
board of alderman within four weeks of the occurrence of
the vacancy shall elect some qualified person to fill such
vacancy for the remainder of the unexpired term. Any
vacancies in the board of aldermen, the office of mayor,
or the office of city register and collector of taxes shall
be filled by the favorable votes of a majority of the remain-
ing members of the board of aldermen. In case the mayor
or any alderman or the city register and collector of taxes
shall fail to qualify within 30 days of notification of elec-
tion by the city register and collector of taxes, a
vacancy shall exist to be filled as provided in this section.
The board of aldermen shall record the results of any such
vote taken in its minutes and shall certify the result to
the office of city register and collector of taxes. The office
of city register and collector of taxes shall forthwith
notify the person so elected, who shall within five days of
notice qualify in the same manner as regularly elected city
officials.
WOMEN
72. Women shall have equal privileges with men in
registering, voting, and holding city offices if they have
the same qualifications required for men. Whenever the
masculine gender has been used as to any registering, vot-
