be filed with the Board of Supervisors of Elections at least
ten days prior to the time of holding the election at which
the candidates for office are to be voted on.

PRIMARY ELECTIONS

£9. Candidates for elective public office in the govern-
ment of the City of Frederick may be nominated by a
direct primary election rather than by a convention. Each
political party which shall have polled five per cent (5%)
of the entire vote cast in the City of Frederick at the next
preceding general election may participate in a primary
election to be held, if requested by any such political party,
in the City of Frederick on the third Wednesday in May
of each year in which a regular city election is scheduled.
Any qualified voter of the City of Frederick and of any
party participating in such primary election shall be
entitled to vote in the primary election. The Board of
Supervisors of Elections shall give at least ten days notice,
by publication in some newspaper printed in the City of
Frederick, of the time and places of holding any such pri-
mary election. All primary elections shall be managed and
controlled by the Board of Supervisors of Elections in the
same manner as regular municipal elections. The voting
machine or ballot shall list the name of each person who
shall file with the Board of Supervisors of Elections at
least twenty days prior to the time for holding the primary
election by which he seeks nomination, notice in writing
of his desire to be voted on at such election, the office for
which he wishes to become a candidate, and the party
with which he is affiliated.

NOMINATION BY PETITION

60. A candidate for a public office in the government
of the City of Frederick shall be deemed to have been
nominated by petition when he, or someone in his behalf,
shall file with the Board of Supervisors of Elections, at
least ten days prior to the time for holding the election at
which he desires to be voted on, a certificate containing
the signatures of at least three hundred qualified voters of
the city and their addresses, and containing the name of
the candidate, a statement of his political affiliation, the
office which he seeks, and a statement that the persons
signing the same intend to vote for the person named
therein for the office named therein. No person shall sign
a petition for more than one candidate for each office to
be filled.
ANY PERSON SO NOMINATED SHALL BE
DESIGNATED ON THE BALLOT AS "INDEPEN-
DENT".
