CHAPTER 509
(House Bill 655)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37B
(r) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947
Supplement), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and
Duties", relating to the expenses of the Sheriff of St. Mary's
County and to the compensation and expenses of his
deputies.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 37B (r) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Sheriffs", sub-title
"Compensation and Duties", be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
37B.
(r) The Sheriff of St. Mary's County shall receive an annual
salary of $3, 300 and he shall be allowed in addition thereto the
sum of [$3, 800 for the payment of a Deputy or Deputies and
for the expenses of his office as he shall determine. ] $1, 200. 00
for expenses. He may SHALL appoint one Deputy who shall
reside in the vicinity or area of Lexington Park and one
Deputy who shall reside in the Third Commissioner District,
each of whom shall receive an annual salary of $1, 800. 00 and
$600. 00 annually for expenses. He may SHALL also appoint
one Deputy who shall reside in or near the town of Leonard-
town whose principal duty shall consist of policing said town,
and he shall receive an annual salary of $900. 00.
The Sheriff shall submit a report to the County Commis-
sioners on or before the tenth day of each month containing
an itemized statement of his expenses for the preceeding
month.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1951.
