Supplement), title 'Motor Vehicles", sub-title "Administra-
tion—Registration—Titling", eliminating certain obsolete
provisions and to provide that the Department of Motor
Vehicles may, with the approval of the Governor, extend the
period during which registration cards and registration
plates may be used for the year 1951.
WHEREAS, due to inability to receive adequate quantities of
steel, the Department of Motor Vehicles has been unable to
secure a sufficient number of registration plates prior to April
1, 1951; therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 29 (a) of Article 66½ of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Motor Vehicles",
sub-title "Administration—Registration—Titling", be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
29. (Expiration of Registration. ) (a) Every vehicle regis-
tration under this Article and every registration card and
registration plate issued hereunder shall expire at midnight
on the 31st day of March of the registration year for which
issued [; provided, however, that with respect to those regis-
tration cards and plates expiring March 31, 1947, the Depart-
ment may, with the approval of the Governor, extend the
period during which registration cards and registration plates
may be used].
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That notwithstanding the
provisions of Section 29 of Article 66½, with respect to those
registration cards and plates expiring March 31, 1951, the De-
partment may, with the approval of the Governor, extend the
period during which such registration cards and such regis-
tration plates may be used.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all of the members, elected to each of the two Houses
of the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
