AN ACT to repeal Section 544 of Article 1 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Alle-
gany County, " sub-title "Roads, " and to enact a new Section
544 to stand in the place and stead of the section so re-
pealed, relating to the appointment of a County Roads
Engineer in Allegany County and to his duties and responsi-
bilities.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 544 of Article 1 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Allegany County, "'
sub-title "Roads, "' be and the same is hereby repealed, and
that a new Section 544 be and the same is hereby enacted
in lieu thereof to stand in the place and stead of the section
so repealed and to read as follows:
544. The County Commissioners of Allegany County
may in its discretion during the month of January, 1951, and
in the months of January every four years thereafter, appoint
as County Roads Engineer a skillful and experienced man of
25 years of age or over, who shall be a practical civil engineer
and who shall give his entire time to his office during the
period of his appointment, which said period of appointment
may be determined by the said County Commissioners but
shall not exceed four years. The appointment of said En-
gineer shall continue for the period of his appointment as
determined by said County Commissioners or until his suc-
cessor is appointed and qualified, unless sooner removed from
such office by the County Commissioners upon the recom-
mendation of the Grand Jury of Allegany County or for cause
by said County Commissioners deemed sufficient. Before en-
tering upon his duties the Roads Engineer shall qualify by
taking an oath before the Cleric of the Circuit Court of Alle-
gany County to faithfully perform the duties of his said office
and by giving bond to the County Commissioners in the penal
sum of $5, 000. 00 conditioned upon the faithful performance
of his duties.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1951.
