at the municipal election to be held in the Town on the
first Monday in May, 1951; to provide the effect thereof,
and to declare an emergency.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(Flack's 1943 Edition) be amended by adding immediately
after Section 1164 a new Section 1164(a) to read as follows:
1164(a). On and after June 1, 1951, the Mayor and mem-
bers of the Common Council of the Town of Riverdale shall be
compensated for their services at the following rates: The
Mayor, $50. 00 per month; members of the Common Council,
$25. 00 per month, to be paid monthly by the Town Treasurer.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the Mayor and
Common Council of Riverdale shall cause ballots to be printed
to be used in the municipal election to be held in the Town
on the first Monday in May, 1951, on which on separate lines
shall be printed the words, "For Compensating Mayor and
Councilmen" and "Against Compensating Mayor and Coun-
cilmen" followed by a box in which the voters may express
their preference by a cross mark. The judges of election
shall certify in writing to the clerk of the Mayor and Com-
mon Council of Riverdale the result of the balloting which
shall be recorded in the minutes of that body. The compen-
sation set forth herein shall be authorized only in the event
the majority of the votes cast upon the question shall be "For
Compensating Mayor and Councilmen. "
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is an
emergency law and necessary to the preservation of the public
health and safety, and having been passed by a yea and nay
vote, supported by three-fifths of all the members elected to
each of the two Houses of the General Assembly of Maryland,
the same shall take effect from its passage.
