proposed to be annexed to the City of Hyattsville by this Act
shall be eligible to vote at said election. The said judges, or
any of them, before permitting any person to vote at said elec-
tion, shall administer to such person an oath to tell the truth,
the whole truth and nothing but the truth with reference to
any question said judges may then ask concerning the qualifi-
cations of such person as a voter in said election, and shall
examine each of said persons, and any such person who does
not qualify under the terms of this section, shall be refused
the right to vote.

Upon the closing of said polls, the said judges and clerks
shall canvass the said vote, publicly announce the result of
said canvass, certify the result to the Mayor and City Council
of Hyattsville, and deliver the ballot boxes, with the ballots
sealed therein, to the Mayor and City Council, who shall faith-
fully keep the sealed boxes for a period of thirty (30) days
after said election.

In the event that the majority of said votes are in favor of
the annexation of the territory herein described to the City of
Hyattsville, said territory shall thereupon be annexed to and
become a part of said City as provided above, but in the event
that a majority of said votes are against such annexation, this
Act shall then be null and void and of no effect.

SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all of the members elected to each of the two Houses
of the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

Local Laws of Prince George's County (Flack's Edition of
1943), as amended, to fix the compensation of the Mayor
and members of the Common Council of the Town of River-
dale after June 1, 1951; to provide a referendum thereon
