sub-title "Civil Service—Police and Fire", be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
56.
(c) The base or grade salary of the members of the Fire De-
partment of the City of Cumberland shall be as follows:
[The Chief Fireman shall receive $286. 00 per month; the
Assistant Chief of Firemen shall receive $256. 00 per month;
each Captain or Lieutenant of Firemen shall receive $226. 00
per month; each Fireman shall receive $190. 00 per month dur-
ing the first year of service and $220. 00 per month for each
month thereafter. No member of the Fire Department shall
receive less than $220. 00 per month after one year of service. ]
The Chief Fireman shall receive $80. 00 per week; each
Assistant Chief of Firemen shall receive $75. 00 per week;
each Captain of Firemen shall receive $72. 50 per week; each
Lieutenant of Firemen shall receive $70. 00 per week; each
driver shall receive $67. 50 per week; each Private shall
receive $65. 00 per week; each Probationer shall receive
$57. 00 per week during the period of his probation, which
shall be twelve months. The aforegoing salaries shall be paid
bi-weekly. REGARDLESS OF THE FIGURES SPECIFIED
HEREINABOVE IN THIS SECTION, EVERY SUCH
MEMBER OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT SHALL RE-
CEIVE A SUPPLEMENTARY PAYMENT OF $12. 00 EACH
MONTH OVER AND ABOVE THE AMOUNT BEING RE-
CEIVED FOR HIS CLASSIFICATION AS OF MARCH 1,
1951. THE COMPENSATION BEING PAID FOR EACH
SUCH CLASSIFICATION AS OF MARCH 1, 1951, PLUS
THE SUM OF $12. 00 EACH MONTH SHALL FROM AND
AFTER JULY 1, 1951, BE THE MINIMUM SALARY OR
COMPENSATION TO BE PAID FOR EACH SUCH CLASSI-
FICATION RESPECTIVELY.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1951.
