may be deemed necessary for the expenses of said town, which
said taxes so levied and assessed shall be collected promptly
by the clerk of said town and by him accounted for as collected
at the end of each and every month; and the said taxes shall
be a lien from the time of levy against the property assessed
and enforceable and collected by the clerk in the same manner
as the Collector of Public County Taxes collects such taxes.
All such taxes levied as aforesaid shall be due and demandable
on the last day of December of the year levied, and thereafter
until paid shall bear interest at six per cent, per annum, but
if paid on or before that date the Mayor and Commissioners
can allow such discount thereon as they shall determine each
year as proper. [And the said The Mayor and Commissioners
may appoint three persons, citizens of said town, to assess
and value all property located within said corporate limits or
taxable therein and shall pass all ordinances necessary to pre-
scribe the duties and powers of said assessors; provided, how-
ever, that the assessment for municipal purposes shall not ex-
ceed the assessment for State and county purposes, or the said
Mayor and Commissioners may accept for said assessment pur-
poses the value placed upon the property within said town for
State and county taxation. ]

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1951.

(House Bill 357)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-section
56 (c) of the Charter of the City of Cumberland (1950 Edi-
tion, being Article 1A of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "City of Cumberland", sub-title "Civil
Service—Police and Fire", revising the salary schedule
PROVIDING ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION for the
members of the Fire Department of the City of Cumberland.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land,
That Sub-section 56 (c) of the Charter of the City of
Cumberland (1950 Edition, being Article 1A of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "City of Cumberland",
