LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 67.

John Clippinger, of Washington county, the benefit of
the several acts of Assembly, passed for the relief of
insolvent debtors; provided, the said John Clippinger
shall, in all respects, except that of proving residence,
comply with the requisitions of the said acts of Assem-
bly, and that he satisfy the said judges of Washington
county court that he did not come into this State with a
view and for the purpose of obtaining the benefit of
said insolvent laws; and provided, the said John Clip-
pingcr shall be compelled to file his petition, for the
benefit of said insolvent laws, with a justice of the or-
phans' court of said county, who is hereby authorised
and directed to make the necessary orders, and dis-
charge him from actual custody on the usual terms
without proof of residence.

CHAPTER 67.

1838.

An act for the benefit of Samuel G. Holbrook, late Sheriff
of Somerset county.

Authority to
collect.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Samuel G. Holbrook, late Sheriff of Somerset
county, and his deputies, or any agent by him appoint-
ed, be, and they are hereby authorised and empowered
to collect and receive all and every balance or amount
of officers fees, chancery taxes, and fines and forfeitures,
and all other sums that may be due and owing to the
said Holbrook as sheriff as aforesaid, or to his deputies
in the same manner, and to the same extent as if the
term of office of the said Holbrook, as sheriff as afore-

said, had not expired; provided, that if any person
against whom there is a claim by said Holbrook, as
sheriff as aforesaid, or cither of his deputies, shall
make affidavit before a justice of the peace of said coun-
ty, that the same has been paid at any previous time
to any person authorised to receive the same, it shall
prevent the said Holbrook and his deputies from col-
lecting said claim in the manner prescribed by law for
