RESOLUTIONS.

1837.

advantage of that section of the country, and the
great encouragement of trade and commerce, if it
could be clearly ascertained that vessels of considera-
ble draft could enter therein; and whereas, the antici-
pated construction of the Eastern Shore Rail Road,
enhances the inducement to the ascertainment of a
correct knowledge of the navigation in question, which
would he further increased by the contemplated con-
nection between the Pocomoke and Annamessic rivers;
and -whereas, the removal of obstructions, with a view
to increasing the tonnage of the State, and promoting
industry and enterprize, are objects of general inter-
est and concernment: — Therefore.
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Senators and Representatives of this State, in the
Congress of the United States, he requested to use
their best exertions, to cause to be made a survey, by
the General Government, as speedily us practicable,
of the rivers immediately above Watkin's point, and
of so much of Pocomoke bay and Tangier sound, as
has an immediate connection with the navigation of
the said waters, for the purpose of ascertaining their
depth, and the practicability of improvements for the
benefit of commerce, and the probable cost of such
improvements.
Further resolved, That his excellency the Governor,
be requested to transmit the aforegoing preamble and
resolution to each of the Senators and Representatives
of this State, in the Congress of the United States.

No. 73.

Preamble and Resolutions requesting our Representa-
tives in Congress to endeavor to procure from the
General Government, further aid towards the com-
pletion of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal.

WHEREAS, by the act incorporating the Chesapeake
and Ohio Canal Company, by the State of Virginia,
confirmed by the Government of the United States,
and the State of Pennsylvania, and Maryland, it
manifestly appears from the preamble to said act that
