1837.

missioners shall be deposited by the judges of election;
and it shall be the duty of the said judges in each of
said districts to count the ballots given in such dis-
tricts, and certify the result of such election of dis-
trict school commissioners annually to the orphans'
court.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That in each election dis-
trict in said county, said district school commissioners
shall, in every year, in the month of July, on each
one of the two last days in said month, (exclusive of
Sundays,) meet at the usual place of holding the
polls; and the said district school commissioners, or

ceed to ascertain the number and condition of the
schools in said district, and the names and character
of the several teachers who shall have been engaged
