CHAP. 248.

the neighborhood of a school, and to the difficulty of
keeping up such school by means of the support of in-
dividuals interested therein.

Oath required.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That each one of the said
district school commissioners, before he shall proceed
to act as such, shall make oath or affirmation, as the
case may be, in due form, before some justice of the
peace of said county, (who shall give him a certificate
that said oath hath been taken,) that said commission-
er will perform the duly and trust committed to him

Compensation.

under this law, faithfully and impartially; and .for
every day that any one of said district school commis-
sioner; shall attend, as hereinbefore required, he shall
receive two dollars from the county commissioners of
said county, out of a fund of one hundred dollars of
school money, which sum shall be excepted from dis-
tribution, and which the said orphans' court are here-
by directed to place with the said county commis-
sioners for the purpose of paying the per diem of said
district school commissioners.

Disposition for
the present.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the sum or sums of
the share of Harford county of the school funds for
distribution by the Treasurer, and of the interest ac-
crued from time to time on any portion of such funds,
shall remain in the Treasury of the State, and accu-
mulate for the use of said county, until the same shall
be drawn for in the manner hereinbefore prescribed.

CHAPTER 248.

Passed Mar. 24,
1838.

An act,entitled, an act to fix the per diem allowance
for the support and maintenance of Prisoners in the
Jail of Harford County.

25 cts. per day.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the Sheriff of Harford county, or person having
charge of the jail of said county; as the case may be,
shall hereafter be entitled to receive and be allowed
for the support and maintenance of prisoners committed
to his charge, the sum of twenty-five cents per diem
each, in lieu of the sum now allowed, to be paid as the
present per diem is now paid.
