An act for the distribution of School Moneys and the
encouragement of Schools and Teachers, in Harford
County.
|

|
Orphans' court
to draw in-
come annually.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the orphans' court of Harford county
shall draw on the Treasurer of the Western Shore an-
nually, in the second week in July, for such portion of
the increase of the income of that part of the surplus re-
venue received from the Government of the United
States, of which the interest lias been pledged by the
State for purposes of education, as Harford county shall
be entitled to receive; and shall also draw as aforesaid
for the share which Harford county is entitled to receive

School fund.

of the income arising from the free school fund, and
for the said county's share of any fund appropriated,
or hereafter to be appropriated for school purposes.

Apportion the
proceeds.
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said orphans'
court shall apportion the said funds, when so drawn
for, as mentioned in the preceding section, among the
several election districts in said county, as nearly as
may be, according to the territorial extent of said

election district respectively; and as soon as the said
funds shall have been received by the said orphans'
court, the said court shall distribute and pay over the
same to the order of the district school commissioners
hereinafter mentioned.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That at the general elec-
tion in October next, and annually thereafter, the
voters in each election district in said county shall or
may ballot for five persons, residents in such district,
to be district school commissioners, for purposes men-
tioned in this act, and ... the persons so voted for,
[persons receiving the greatest number of ballots in an
election district, shall be district school commissioners
for said district,*] for and during the space of twelve

months next thereafter; and it shall be the duty of the
sheriff of said county to provide for each election dis-
trict a separate ballot box, for which he shall be rea-
sonably compensated, at the expense of the county, in
which box the ballots given for district school com-
