CHAPTER 141.

An act for the relief of Joseph Steele, and others.

Payment direct-
ed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the treasurer of Baltimore county be,
and he is hereby authorised and required to pay out of
the treasury of Baltimore county, to Joseph Steele,
chief district justice of the third election district in
Baltimore county, to William Jameson, chief justice
of the fourth election district, and William McIlvain,
acting chief justice of the sixth election district, seve-
rally, or to their orders, such sums of money as may be
due to them, and to Warner W. Warfield, Nicholas
Dorsey, Mordecai G. Cockey and Jacob Kerlinger, for
services rendered as district justices in and for Balti-
more county, before the erection of Carroll county;

Proviso.

provided, that the chief justices severally report to the
commissioners of Baltimore county, on, or before the
first day of June next, the claims due to their respec-
tive courts, properly authenticated.

Levy directed.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted That the commissioners of
Baltimore county are hereby required to levy on the
assessable property of Baltimore county a sum of mo-
ney sufficient to pay the claims due to the said district
justices, and all necessary expenses for collection
thereof.

CHAPTER 142.

An act for the benefit of Alexander McComas, of Har-
ford county.

Payment direct-
ed.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Alexander McComas, of Harford county, be, and
he is hereby declared to be entitled to the same per
diem pay that is usually allowed to bailiffs of Harford
county court, for and during the time he attended the

said court as bailiff, at the trial of the late Bank of
Maryland civil and criminal causes removed from Bal-
timore to Harford county court, and such allowance be
taxed by the clerk of said court as part of the costs in
