FREE

NEGROES AND SLAVES— If any free ne-

gro, etc. within ten days from the end of

the term for which such negro, etc. may

have been sold, etc. shall not leave the

State, or hire himself, etc. to serve as a

slave for the following year, he shall again

be sold, etc. and like manner every suc-

cessive year thereafter,

The purchaser of any free negro, etc.

shall pay to said negro, etc. at the end of

the term, etc. the amount of money bid for

said negro, etc. after deducting necessary
costs and charges, the sum of 10 per cent as

commission to the officer, $5 to the informer,

if any, §1 to each of the justices for their

services, provided said purchase money af-
ter deducting costs, etc. which shall be paid

in cash at the time of sale, be secured by

bond, etc. for the use of said negro at the

end of term, etc. bond to be then assigned

said negro, and may be recovered as small

debts,

If any free negro be sold by virtue of

the 3rd and 4lh sections of this act, shall

be father or mother of any child below the

age of 21 years if male, or 18 years if fe-

male, the justices of said courts or orphans'

courts, etc. to have the infant brought be-

fore them and bound out, etc. if male until

21 years, if female until 18, etc. all inden-

tures to be returned to orphans' courts,

etc.

dered personal property and liable to be

transferred to any person in the State, but

said apprentices in no case to be removed
out of the State,
