Passed Mar 20,
1840.

No. 44.

Resolution in favor of certain Members of the Legisla-
ture.

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Treasurer of the Western Shore, pay to such members
of the Legislature as may be detainee!, by sickness, at
the seat of government, after its adjournment, their per

No. 45.

Passed Mar. 20,

1840.

Resolution in favor of Charles W. Thruston, and others.

WHEREAS, Captain Robert McCulloch, Captain Alex-
ander King and Captain George W. Haller, of Allegany
county, have memorialized the Legislature, asking for
remuneration for their respective companies for service
rendered the State during the month of last August, in
suppressing the riots on the line of the Chesapeake and
Ohio Canal; and whereas, said companies were ordered to
march to said line of canal by General O. H. Williams,
who received authority from the Governor, requiring said
companies promptly to repair to and quell said riot; and
whereas, in obedience to the order, said companies did
forthwith leave their fields, workshops, &c. and marched
with determination to support the supremacy of the law,
and bring the violators of the peace to punishment; and
whereas, said companies were employed in service of the
State for six successive days, at a season of the year when
they ought to have attended to their business, upon which
most of them depend for their livelihood — therefore,
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Treasurer of the Western Shore be directed to pay
Colonel Charles W. Thruston, militia allowance for each
member of the different companies of Allegany county,
that were engaged in suppressing the riots last August,
on the line of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal.
Resolved, That Colonel Thruston be directed to pay
said money to the Captain of each company that was en-
gaged as aforesaid, the amount due them respectively.
