WILLIAM GRASON, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

1839.

SEC. 3. And, be it enacted, That the levy to be made
by the provisions of this act, shall stand to the credit of
said commissioners, for the purpose herein mentioned, on
the levy list of the respective counties, who shall, and they
are hereby authorised to draw on the respective collectors
of the county tax for the amount so levied.
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said commission-
ers or superintendents appointed in virtue of the second
section of this act, shall each be entitled to the sum of
two dollars for every day's attendance as such, for which
an account shall be rendered to the respective levy courts,
with an affidavit thereon, to be by them levied and collec-
ted as other county charges are; and further, that the said
commissioners shall, in writing, under their hands, report
to the respective levy courts, their proceedings in relation
to the erection of said bridge, and making the necessary
causeways thereto.

An act for the relief of Francis Herbert, of Saint Mary's
County.

Passed Mar. 19,
1840.

WHEREAS, it appears to this General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, that Francis Herbert, of Saint Mary's county,
some time during the fall of eighteen hundred and thirty-
nine, at the suggestion and by request of one of the trus-
tees of the school district number three, for said county,
purchased materials to build a school house in said dis-
trict, which said materials were lost, together with the
vessel of the said Francis Herbert, on her passage to Saint
Mary's— Therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the commissioners of the tax for Saint
Mary's county, be and they are hereby authorised and em-
powered to levy a sum not exceeding one hundred dollars,
upon the taxable property of Saint Mary's county, to in-
demnify the above named Francis Herbert, against the
loss which he sustained of certain materials purchased for
the use of one of the primary schools of said county.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the aforesaid commis-
sions, have full power and authority to pay over to the
said Francis Herbert, such sum as may appear to them to
be due, not exceeding the above mentioned sum.
