aforesaid, in the same manner and with the same power
and privileges as are allowed by the existing laws, in said
cases made and allowed.

CHAP. 289.
|

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said John Lam-
mott shall not be entitled to collect any bill of taxes, from
any person who will make oath, before some justice of
the peace, according to the best of his or her knowledge,
that said taxes have been already paid.
|
Restriction.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall not
continue in force longer than one year from the date of
the passage thereof.
CHAPTER 288.

In force.

An act for the relief of Duff Green.
WHEREAS, Duff Green has brought into this State a ne-
gro woman named Harriet, a slave for life, with the in-
tention of sending said slave out of the State; and said
slave has now been within this State for more than thirty
days; and whereas, said Green has become an inhabitant
of this State, and desires to retain said slave herein —
therefore,

Preamble.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Duff Green, be and he is hereby authorised, within
thirty days after the passage of this act, to retain within
this State as a slave, a negro woman name Harriet, a
slave for life; provided, that he shall within thirty days af-
ter the passage of this act, in all respects comply with the
laws of this State in relation to the introduction of negro
slaves, with the exception of filing a list of said slave,
within thirty days after the introduction of said slave into
this State.
