1839.

open for inspection at all general meetings of the members
of the association, and that a like record shall be kept of
all proceedings of the general meetings of the mem-
bers.

CHAP. 282.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the trustees shall meet
at least twice in every year in stated semi-annual meet-
ings, to be appointed by their own ordinances and by-laws,
of the association; and at such other times as by said or-
dinances or their own adjournments shall be directed; and
that at such meetings, they shall have power to appoint
from rime to time, a president, treasurer and secretary, to
make contracts with the professors, teachers and assistant
teachers, relative to their salaries, and to the instruction of
the students and pupils of the academy, to examine the
students and pupils in the several departments of instruc-
tion in the academy, to hear and determine on all com-
plaints and appeals, and to decide on all matters touching
the discipline and government of the academy, and gene-
rally to manage its concerns as they shall deem best for its

usefulness, advancement and prosperity; provided always,
that this incorporation shall be understood to be granted on
the following principles, namely, the said academy shall be
founded and maintained upon a liberal plan for the benefit
of youth of every religious denomination; all its students
and pupils shall be admitted to equal privileges and advan-
tages of accommodation and education, without the en-
forcement of any religious test, or of attendance at any
place of worship or religious service, without the consent
of the parents, guardians, master or next friend of the stu-
dents and pupils; and no preference shall be given in the
choice of professors, teachers, or assistant teachers, on ac-
count of religious profession or persuasion, but regard shall
be had to their moral characters, literary attainments, or the
qualifications to fill the places lor which they shall be cho-

sen.

Proviso.


SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That nothing herein con-
tained shall be so construed as to authorise this corpora-
tion, to issue any token, device, evidence of debt, certifi-
cate or note, to be used as currency.

Banking forbid.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That this act shall be in
force for thirty years and no longer; and the right is hereby
expressly reserved to the legislature at its pleasure to alter,
amend or annul this act of incorporation.
