An act to divorce George Carey, of Worcester County,
from his wife Nancy Carey.

Divorce.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That George Carey, of Worcester county, be and he is
hereby divorced from his wife Nancy Carey, a vinculo

matrimonii.

CHAPTER 263.

Passed Mar. 16,
1840.

An act authorising Virginia W. Mason, of Washington
County, to contract for the sale or exchange of the
lands therein mentioned.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, it is represented to this General Assembly,
that it may conduce to the interest of Virginia W. Mason,

to sell or exchange the real estate, without improvements,
of which she is now seized, to the end that she may
thereby be enabled to acquire other lands with improve-
ments; which sale or exchange she is not competent to
make in consequence of her legal incapacity to contract—
therefore,

Legal incapaci-

ty removed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the legal incapacity of the said Virginia
W. Mason to contract for the sale, or to effect an exchange
of the real estate of which she is seized, be and the same
is hereby removed.

Sale and deed
made valid.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That any sale of the said
real estate made by her, shall be valid and binding, not-
withstanding her legal minority; and that any deed exe-
cuted by her to the purchaser or purchasers thereof, shall
be as effectual to pass the title in and thereto, as if she
was of full age.

Empowered to
contract.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said Virginia W.
Mason may contract to purchase other lands, as if she
was of full age; and any contract so made by her, shall
be as binding and obligatory on her and her heirs, as if
she was of full age.

Exchange of
lands lawful.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That any exchange of the
said lands for other lands which shall be made by her,
shall be deemed, construed and taken, as if she was of
