CHAPTER 254.
An act to allow Henry L. Coombs, late Collector of Prince
George's County, further time to complete his collec-
tions.
|

|
Authorised to
collect taxes.
Proviso.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Henry L. Coombs, late collector of Prince
George's county, and his deputies, be and they are hereby
authorised and empowered to collect any balance of taxes
that may be due the said Henry L. Coombs, or his depu-
privileges as are allowed by law; provided, that if any per-
son against whom there is a claim by said Coombs or his
deputies for taxes as aforesaid, shall make affidavit before
any justice of the peace of said county, that the same has
been paid, the said Coombs, and his deputies, shall not be
authorised to collect the same by execution in the manner
now prescribed by law, but the said affidavit shall not bar
the said Coombs's right to collect the said taxes as small
debts are now recovered by law.

How construed.
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act shall
be construed to affect the estate of any deceased person;
and that this act shall expire on the first day of May
eighteen hundred and forty-one.

An act to extend the time of Francis Stevens, former Sher-
iff of Calvert County, to complete his collections.
|
|
|
Time extended.
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,
Francis Stevens, former sheriff of Calvert county, be and
he is hereby authorised to collect until the first day of Au-
gust, eighteen hundred and forty-one, all fines, forfeitures,
amercements, officers fees and public dues which were
placed in his hands for collection, and all fees due to him
which have not been collected in the same manner that he
might have done within the time limited by law.

SEC. 2. And be, it enacted, That the said Francis Ste-
vens before he proceeds to execute the body or property
of any person or persons for fees, forfeitures, amercements,
