CHAP. 150.
Provisoes.
|
ly of the said Josiah Suit; provided, that within thirty
days after such removal, he shall cause to be filed with the
clerk of the county into which said negro is introduced,
the name of the said slave so removed, stating his age,
with an affidavit thereto attached, that the same is the true
and faithful name of the said slave so removed; and that
the said Josiah Suit hath not removed the said slave into
this State for the purpose of sale, and that he is a slave
for life; and provided also, that the sum of fifteen dollars
for such slave, shall be paid to the clerk of the county
court, at the time of giving such name, to be paid over
by him to the Treasurer of the Western Shore, for the use
and benefit of the colonization society of the State.

An act to incorporate the Cumberland Lodge, Number
Sixty-one, of Free and Accepted Masons, in Allegany
County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Master, Wardens and Members of
Cumberland Lodge, Number Sixty-one, of Free and Ac-
cepted Masons, and their successors, be and they are here-
by declared a body corporate, so far as to render them

capable in law, to sue and be sued, plead and be implead-
ed, defend and be defended in all and every court of law
and equity, and before all or any judges, officers or per-
sons whatsoever, and that it may be lawful for them to
have and keep a common seal for their use; and in general
to have and exercise all such rights, franchises, privileges
and immunities, as by law are incident or necessary to cor-
porations of this kind.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That they and their suc-
cessors shall, and may at all times hereafter, be capable in
law to hove, receive and retain to them and their succes-
sors, property real, personal and mixed, also devises or
bequests of any person or persons, bodies corporate or
politic capable of making the same, and the same at their
pleasure to transfer or dispose of in such manner as they

may think proper; provided always, that the said corpora-
tion or body politic shall not at any time hold or possess
property, real, personal or mixed, exceeding in value the
sum of twenty thousand dollars.
