CHAPTER 131.

CHAP. 132.

An act authorizing Doctor John A. E. Horsey, of Som-
erset County, to introduce into this State certain Slaves
for life.

WHEREAS, Dr. John A. E. Horsey has removed into,
and become a bona fide citizen of this State— Therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage of this act it shall and may
be lawful for the said John A. E. Horsey, to bring into

this State certain slaves for life; provided, that within six-
ty days after such removal, the said John A. E. Horsey
shall cause to be recorded in the office of the clerk of Som-
erset county court, the names of all his slaves so removed;
and provided also, that the said John A. E. Horsey shall
pay to the clerk of said county, for the use of the Mary-
land colonization society, the sums required to be paid by
the act of Assembly of December session eighteen hun-
dred and thirty-three, chapter eighty-seven.


CHAPTER 132.

Provisoes.

An act to authorize John B. Taylor, of Somerset County,
to introduce into the State of Maryland, from the State
of Delaware, three Negroes, slaves for life, mentioned in
the act.

Passed Jan. 16.
1840

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage of this act, it shall be law-
ful for John B. Taylor, of Somerset county, to introduce
into this State from the State of Delaware, three negroes,
slaves for life to the said Taylor, to wit: negro James, aged
about forty-five years; negro Jacob, aged about twenty-
six years; and negro Leah, aged about twenty-three years;

provided, that within thirty days after such introduction
the said John B. Taylor shall file with the clerk of Somer-
set county court, a list of said slaves stating their ages, with
an affidavit attached thereto, that the same is a true and
faithful list of said slaves, and that he hath not introduced
them into the State for the purpose of sale, and that they
are slaves for life; and that at the time of giving such list,
he pay to the said clerk the sum of five dollars for the
said negro James; and the sum of fifteen dollars, for each
of said negroes Jacob and Leah; to be paid over by the
