May introduce a

slave.

Proviso.

CHAPTER 29.

An act for the relief of John T. Holtzman, of Prince
George's County.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That John T. Holtzman, be and he is hereby author-
ized and empowered to bring into this State, and hold
as a slave, negro Kitty Robinson; Provided, the said
John T. Holtzman, within sixty days from the pas-
sage of this law shall file with the Clerk of Prince
George's county, a description of such slave, stating
her age, with an affidavit thereto annexed, stating that
the same is a true and faithful description of such ne-
gro and that she is not removed into this State for the
purpose of sale and that she is a slave for life; And pro-
vided also, the said John T. Holtzman shall pay over to
the Clerk of Prince George's county court, fifteen
dollars for the use of the Colonization Society of the
State as required by the act of eighteen hundred and
thirty three, chapter eighty seven.

CHAPTER 30.

1839.

A supplement to an act, entitled, an act to provide for
electing Commissioners for Washington county, and
prescribing their powers and duties, passed at De-
cember session Eighteen hundred and twenty -nine,
chapter twenty one.

Preamble.

WHEREAS, no provision is made in the law passed
at December session eighteen hundred and twenty-
nine, chapter twenty one, giving to the people of Wash-
ington county the right to choose their county commis-
sioners by ballot, to determine in case of tie between
two or more of the candidates for the said office of
county commissioner; And whereas, it appears from
the returns of the judges of election for Washington
county, that at the last October election there was a

election district in said county; — Therefore,
