1838.

law; Provided, however, that nothing herein contained,
shall be construed to extend the limits of direct taxa-
tion, except for the special object of raising the sums
aforesaid; And provided further, that property beyond
the present limits of direct taxation shall be charged
for the purposes aforesaid, only rateably and propor-
tionally according to assessment, with property with-
in the said limits for the same purposes.

CHAP. 169.

Provisoes.

An act to authorize Philemon Warfield, Collector of
Taxes in the Second Collection District of Anne Arun-
del County, further time to complete his collections.

Passed Mar. 13,
1839.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Philemon Warfield, Collector of the
second collection district of Anne Arundel County,
be and he is hereby authorized and empowered to
collect any taxes, or balance of taxes now remaining
due to and uncollected by him, in the district aforesaid,
in the same manner, and with the same power and
privileges as are allowed by the existing laws in said
cases made and provided.

Authority to collect.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the aforesaid Phile-
mon Warfield, shall, in every instance, before he may
proceed to the aforesaid collection, make affidavit be-
fore some justice of the peace, of said county, that the
same remains unpaid, and that he hath not received any
security or satisfaction for the same, or any part there-
of, more than what credits may be allowed thereon.

Accounts to be

proved.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall not
continue in force longer than one year from the date of
the passage thereof.

CHAPTER 170.

Limit 1 year.

An act to introduce the culture of the Mulberry Tree,
and raising of Silk at the Alms House, in Kent
County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the levy court of Kent county, be, and
