1838.

CHAPTER 111.

An act to authorise Romulus R. Griffith, to remove into
this State, a negro slave for life.

CHAP. 112.

Passed. Mar. 5,

1839.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Romulus R. Griffith, of the city of Baltimore,
be, and he is hereby authorised to remove into this
State, a negro slave, a slave for life; Provided, that the
said Romulus R. Griffith, shall within sixty days after
the removal to this State, of said slave, file with the
clerk of Baltimore county court, in writing and sworn
to by said Griffith, a statement of the sex, age, name
and distinguishing marks of said slave, and that said
slave is a slave for life, and shall also pay to the clerk
aforesaid, fifteen dollars, for the use of the Maryland
State Colonization society.

CHAPTER 112.

Permission grant-

ed.

Proviso.

An act authorising the School House Building Commit-
tee, of Sharpsburg, in Washington County, to sell and
convey a lot therein mentioned.

Passed Mar, 4,
1839.

WHEREAS, by the petition of Jacob Rohrbach, John
Miller, John M. Knode, John D. Grove and N. B.
Robinson, it appears to the General Assembly of Mary-
land, that the said petitioners, acting as a building
committee for the purpose of building a school house
in the town of Sharpsburg, in Washington county, in-
curred a considerable debt, which from the subscrip-
tions made by private individuals were not sufficient
to discharge; and whereas, a certain lot had been given
by the original proprietor of Sharpsburg, situated in
said town for the purpose of building said school house
upon; and whereas, the said building committee did not
deem it expedient or advantageous to build upon said
lot: and whereas, the said lot still remains unemploy-
ed, and in its present condition useless: — Therefore,

Preamble.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,

That the said building committee, or a majority of
them, are hereby authorised and directed to sell and
