CHAP. 114.

Proceeds applied.

convey the said lot in Sharpsburg, known as the School
House Lot, upon the most advantageous terms, and
appropriate the proceeds of said sale to the payment.
of the debt incurred by the aforesaid building commit-
tee in erecting the said school house in Sharpsburg,
and that the surplus of said sale, shall be appropriated
by said building committee, to the purposes of educa-
tion in district number one, in Washington county.

CHAPTER 113.

1839.

An act to authorize Thomas M. D. Baden, Collector of
Taxes of Prince George's County, further time to com-
plete his collections

Authority to col-

lect.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Thomas M. D. Baden, collector of
taxes fur Prince George's county, be and he is hereby
authorized and empowered to collect taxes or any ba-
lance of taxes now remaining due and uncollected by
him, in the county aforesaid, in the same manner, and
with the same power and privileges as are allowed by
the existing laws of this State in said cases made and
provided.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That Thomas M. D. Baden,
shall, in every instance, before he may proceed to the a-
foresaid collection, make affidavit before some justice
of the peace of said county, that the same remains un-

paid, and that he hath not received any security or sat-

isfaction for the same, or any part thereof, more than
what credits may be allowed thereon.

Time specified.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall not
continue in force longer than the first day of July
eighteen hundred and forty.

CHAPTER 114.

1839.

An act to protect the reputations of unmarried Women.

Malicious words &c.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,
all words spoken maliciously touching the character,
