LAWS OF MARYLAND.

1843.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the commissioner of
loans is hereby authorised, empowered and directed, to
issue to James M. Smith, executor as aforesaid, of the last
will and testament of the said Philip Smith, deceased, or to
his attorney authorised by him to receive the same, certifi-
cates for all back interest due on the said awards of dam-
ages made by the commissioners appointed to settle up the
affairs of the Eastern Shore Rail Road Company, done to
the lands of the said Philip Smith, for the years eighteen
hundred and forty-one, eighteen hundred and forty-two,
and eighteen hundred and forty-three, and also hereafter to
issue to the said James M. Smith, executor as aforesaid, or to
his authorised attorney, or to each person or persons as the
said certificates of State stock may be transferred, certifi-
cates for all such interest as may hereafter accrue on the
certificates of State stock issued as aforesaid.

An act to authorise the Mayor and City Council of Balti-
more, to continue Short street from Jefferson street to Mc-
Elderry street.

Passed Feb.
14, 1844.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the mayor and city council of Baltimore,
be and they are hereby authorised to receive and accept a
deed of surrender from the proprietors of the property, to
form the bed of a street, to be a continuation of Short street,
and to be left open from Jefferson to McElderry streets,
and to declare such street to be a public street and highway
and subject to the laws and ordinances of the city of Balti-

ties interested in the bed of the said street, unite in the
surrender of the same to the mayor and city council of
Baltimore.

Proviso.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the street referred to
in the first section of this act, shall be continued from Short
street, as located on the city plat, by straight lines and of
the same width as Short street located on the city plat, and
that the street hereby authorised to be opened, shall when
opened, be taken and deemed as a continuation of Short
street.
