one and also for the year eighteen hundred and forty-two
in part, has failed to collect and pay into the Treasury of the
State, the full amount of taxes due in said county, for the
first year aforesaid, and also that portion that was due and
collectable by him for the year eighteen hundred and forty-
two, and whereas certain suits have been instituted by
the State against him by reason of his said failure, and
whereas, this General Assembly is satisfied with the reason
he has given for the said failure, and is disposed to
allow him further time to make and complete his collec-

tions. Therefore,
Section 1 Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the said William Dellinger, be and he
is hereby authorised to collect the balance due in said
county, for direct taxes, for the years eighteen hundred and
forty-one, and eighteen hundred and forty-two. Provided,
the said William Dellinger, shall within twenty clays, from
the passage of this law execute a bond with sureties, to be
approved by the commissioners of Washington county, in
the usual form to the State of Maryland, in the penalty of
fifty thousand dollars, conditioned for the faithful discharge
of his duty as collector as aforesaid, for the said years,
under the law regulating the conduct and responsibility of
collectors of the direct taxes for said years, and under the

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That after the said William
Dellinger shall have given bond as aforesaid, he is hereby
required and directed to collect the taxes aforesaid, and to
pay to the Treasurer of the State, one moiety thereof, on
or before the first day of September next, and the residue

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That when the said William
Dellinger shall have given bond as aforesaid, that then at
the term of Washington county court next ensuing the
execution of the said bond, certain suits now pending in
the said court in behalf of the State, against said William
Dellinger, shall be discontinued, upon the said William
Dellinger paying the cost thereof.

bly of Maryland, that Philip Smith deceased, late of the
city of Philadelphia, died, seized of certain lauds in Cecil
