Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall be in force
from its passage, until the first day of May, eighteen hun-
dred and forty-six.

 

CHAPTER 97.

Passed Feb.
12, 1844.

An act for the relief of William C. Norris of the city of
Baltimore.

May hold as a
slave.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That it shall be lawful for William C. Norris of the city
of Baltimore, to Hold and retain in this State, as a slave for
life, a negro girl named Eveline, who is now within this

Provisoes.

State. Provided, that the said William C. Norris, shall
within thirty days after the passage of this act, make affi-
davit before some justice of the peace of the city of Balti-
more, of his intention to become a resident of this State,
and file the said affidavit in the office of the clerk of Balti-
more county, and provided also, that the said William C.
Norris shall within the time aforesaid, file with the said
clerk, a list of the said slave with an affidavit thereto
attached, that the same is a true and faithful list of said
slave, stating the age thereof, and that he the said William
C. Norris, has not brought or removed said slave into this
State for sale, and that the said Eveline is a slave for life,
and provided, that the said William C. Norris pay the sum
of fifteen dollars to the clerk of said county, at the time of
giving said list, to be paid over to the Treasurer of the
Western Shore, for the use and benefit of the Maryland
State Colonization Society.

 

CHAPTER 98.

12, 1844.

An act to enable William Bellinger, collector of the direct
tax for Washington county, for the year eighteen hun-
dred and forty-one and for eighteen hundred and forty-
two in part, to complete his collections.

Preamble.

Whereas William Dellinger of Washington county, who
it is represented, was appointed collector of the direct tax
for said county, for the year eighteen hundred and forty-
