LAWS OF MARYLAND.

1843.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said corporation
shall be able and capable in law to purchase, receive and
hold property both personal and real, and the same to dis-
pose of in such manner as may be deemed most conducive
to the interest thereof; provided, such property shall not at
any one time exceed five thousand dollars.
Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act be
so construed as to authorise the said corporation to issue
any note, token, device, scrip or other evidence of debt to
be used as a currency.

CHAPTER 63.

 

An act for the incorporation of Friendship Lodge of free
and accepted Masons in the town of Williamsport.

Passed Jan.
31, 1844.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Joseph Hallman, William Corby, Adam
Stupe, John Nitzel, William Steffey, Jacob Zukle, Ben-
jamin Swingly and others, officers and members of Friend-
ship Lodge No. 84, of free and accepted masons, and their
successors, be and they are hereby declared to be a com-
munity, corporation and body politic by the name style and
title of Friendship Lodge No. 84, of free and accepted
masons, working under a charter from the Grand Lodge of
Maryland, and by that name they and their successors shall
and may at all times hereafter be capable in law to have,
receive and retain to them and their successors, property
real and personal, also devise an bequests of any persons,
bodies corporate or politic, capable of making the same and
the same at their pleasure to transfer or dispose of in such
manner as they may think proper. Provided always, that
the said corporation or body politic shall not at any time
hold or possess property, real personal or mixed, to exceed-
ing m value the sum of four thousand dollars.

Incorporated.
Proviso.

Sec. 2. And he it enacted, That the said corporation
and their successors by the name and title aforesaid, shall
be hereafter capable in law to sue and be sued, plead and
be impleaded, answer and be answered unto, defend
and be defended in all or any courts of justice, and
before all or any judges, officers or persons whatsoever, in
all and any singular actions and matters whatsoever.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall and may be
lawful for the said corporation to have a common seal for
their use, and the same at their will and pleasure to change
alter and make anew from time to time, as they may think
