CHAPTER 237.

chap. 238.

An act act to license woodhucksters in the city of Baltimore,
and to repeal the act therein mentioned.

Passed March
4, 1844.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and alter the passage of this act, it
shall be lawFul for the clerk of Baltimore city court to grant
and issue licenses to retail and huckster wood, on any of the
wharfs in the city of Baltimore, other than city property,
upon the person or persons so applying, paying the sum of

fifty dollars, for the use of the State. Provided, that not
more than two persons be included in any one license, and
that the names of both be expressed therein, and said licenses
shall be renewed once in each year.

Proviso.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said clerk shall
account for and pay over to the Treasurer of the State, the
monies received by him under the provisions of this act, at
the time or times, and in the same manner as he is required
by law to pay over other monies received by him for the
use of the State.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That no person or persons
shall retail or huckster wood on any wharf in the city of
Baltimore as aforesaid, without having first obtained a
license, as provided by the first section of this act, and any
person or persons so offending, shall upon conviction in
Baltimore city court, be fined for every offence, one hundred
dollars, one half for the use of the State, and the other
half for the use of the person or persons who shall prose-
cute the same with effect

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act shall
be so construed, as to prevent masters and owners of ves-
sels from selling or retailing wood as heretofore, without a
license.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That the act of December
session eighteen hundred and forty, chapter one hundred
and ninety, be and the same is hereby repealed.

Repealed.
