CHAP 195.

may be lawful for Peyton R. Johnson, to bring into this
Stale, negro Emily and her five children, Isaac, Henri-

Proviso.

etta, Sarah, Claiborn and Randall, slaves for life, and the
property of the said Peyton R. Johnson; Provided he
shall comply with the last proviso of the fourth section
of the act of assembly passed December session eighteen
hundred and thirty one, chapter three hundred and twen-
ty-three, and also with the requisitions of the act passed
at December session eighteen hundred and thirty-three,
chapter eighty-seven.

An act entitled, a farther supplement to an act to regulate
the Municipal Government of Howard District of Anne
Arundel County, passed at December session eighteen
hundred and thirty-nine, chapter ninety-eight.

Commission-
ers to lay off
and divide H.
District into
five election
districts.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the commissioners of Howard District,
of Anne Arundel county, be and are hereby required, on
or before the first day of August, eighteen hundred and
forty-four, to lay off and divide Howard District into
five election districts, carefully making the said election
districts, as nearly equal as may be, having regard to po-
pulation, extent of territory, and the convenience of the
voters of each said district, and each of said districts,
shall be numbered by said commissioners, and be known
hereafter by such numbers, and the said commissioners
shall designate a place as nearly central as convenient as
may be practicable, in each election district so laid off, at
which the election shall be held, and the said commission-
ers, shall as soon as practicable, deliver to the clerk of
Howard District Court a description in writing, under
their hands and seals, specifying plainly the boundaries'
and numbers of each said election district, and also the
place in each of said election districts, where the election
is to be held, and the said clerk shall record the same
among the records of said Howard District, and it shall
be further the duty of said commissioners, to cause co-
pies of said description to be published in hand-bill form,
and set tip at five of the most public places in each elec-
tion district as soon as practicable, and at all elections
hereafter to be held in said Howard District alone, or as a
pert of Anne Arundel county, the voters within the limits
