collect all fees, taxes and levies, in the same manner in
which he was authorized to do whilst lie was in office,
provided, that if any person or persons, his, her or their re-
presentatives against whom any such fees, taxes or levies
may have been rendered, will make oath or affirmation be-
fore a Justice of the Peace that the same has been satisfied
or paid, that this act shall not extend to such cases, and
provided also, that the powers conferred by this act shall
not continue in force longer than the first day of March,
eighteen hundred and forty-four.

CHAPTER 132.

 

An act to extend the time of Joseph Weast, Collector of
County Taxes for Washington.

Passed Feb.
26, 1843.

Be it enacted by f he General Assembly of Maryland,
That Joseph Weast, the present collector of county taxes,
for Washington county, be and he is hereby allowed until
the first of January, eighteen hundred and forty-four, to
complete his county collection.

ded.

CHAPTER 133.

 

An act for the better collection of State and County Tax-
es in this State.

Passed Feb.
17, 1843.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act, it
shall and may be, lawful for the Collectors of the tax in the
several counties of this State, in returning and in advertising
for sale the list of land charged for the payment of taxes
and liable to be sold for the same, in all cases, when such
lands assessed in the name of a person deceased or entered
upon the assessment books as belonging to the heirs, any
individual to return and advertise the same as chargeable in
general terms, to the heirs said person deceased, or in the
language in which said lands are charged upon the assess-
ment books.
