to hold and retain in this State, as a slave for life, a negro
girl named Juliet, who is now within this State, provided,
that the said William Poe shall within thirty days after the
passage of this act, make affidavit before some justice of
the peace of Baltimore city, and have the same hied in the
office of the clerk of Baltimore city, of his intention to be-
come a resident of this State; and provided also, that the
said William Poe shall within the time aforesaid, file with
the said clerk a list of said slave with an affidavit thereto
attached, that the same is a true and faithful list of said slave,
and that he, the said William Poe, has not bought or remo-
ved said slave into this State for sale, and that the said ne-
gro Juliet is a slave for life, and provided, that the said
William Poe pay the sum of fifteen dollars to the clerk of
said county at the time of giving said list, to be paid over to
the Treasurer of the Western Shore for the use and benefit
of the Colonization Society.

CHAPTER 119.

 

An act requiring the Register of the Land Office for the
Western Shore to correct an error in a certain patent
therein mentioned.

Passed Feb.
17, 1843.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the Register of the Land Office for the Western Shore
be, and he is hereby directed, to correct all errors in a pa-
tent issued out of the Land Office for the Western Shore to a
certain Daniel Scott, bearing date the 12th day of July, seven-
teen hundred and twenty, fora tract of land called Addition
to Jame's Forrrest, lying then in Baltimore, but now Har-
ford county, so that said patent may correspond with the
original certificate upon which said patent was issued;
provided, that the said register shall only be authorized to
correct such clerical errors as shall appear to have been
committed in issuing said patent in non-conformity with the
original certificate.
