SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Tench Tilghman, George Page and Tho-
mas I. Sherwood, or a majority of them, be and they are
hereby appointed commissioners to erect a bridge or cause-
way across the narrows at Tilghman's Island, of similar
construction with that across the narrows of Kent Island,
in Queen Anne's county, or in any other manner they may
deem best, and that the said commissioners or a majority of
them, shall meet on or after the first day of March next, for
the purpose of ascertaining what part of the narrows
would be the most eligible over which to build a bridge or
causeway, and for the purpose of contracting for or other-
wise causing the same to be constructed under their imme-

diate superintendance, and at the expense of the owners of
and residents on the said Island; provided, that the said
bridge be so constructed that scows and row boats may pass
under it.

Majority to
fix on scite.
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the commissioners
aforesaid or a majority of them shall have full power and
authority to ascertain and fix on the site of the said bridge
or causeway, and if the site shall be in a place different
from that where the public road now crosses, and it shall
be necessary to make a new road, the commissioners or a
majority of them, shall have power to agree with the same
owner or owners of the lands through which the said road
shall pass, for so much land as may be necessary for said
road, and also for the construction of said bridge or cause-
way, and if the owner or owners cannot agree with the
commissioners or a majority of them, as to the price and
value of said lands, either party may apply to two justices
of the peace for said county, who shall thereupon issue
their warrant to the sheriff of Talbot county, directing
him to summon twenty good and sufficient jurors to appear
on a day and at a place limited and appointed in the said
warrant, from whom shall be struck a jury of twelve, ac-
