CHAP. 81.

of the corporation, and sealed with their corporate seal, and
all deeds by them for the conveyance of any lands and ten-
ements of the corporation which by the law of the land
ought to be acknowledged and recorded, shall be signed
and sealed as aforesaid, and shall also be acknowledged in
due form by the president, as such, in behalf of the corpo-
ration, and all acts and deeds of the said body corporate,
su authenticated, shall be valid and effectual in law.

SEC. 8 And be it enacted, That the said corporation
shall be capable of purchasing hereafter, real and personal
properly not exceeding in value the sum of five thousand

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That all acts and deeds of the com-
mittee of the said church and their successors in virtue of their
incorporation under the act of assembly of eighteen hundred
and two, chapter eleven, which are not inconsistent
with this act and the law of the land, be, and the same are
hereby made good and valid in law, and the lands and tene-
ments conveyed to the said committee in eighteen hundred
and twenty-four, be and the same are hereby vested in the
corporation mentioned in the second clause of this act and
their successors forever.

 

CHAPTER 81.

An act supplementary to an act entitled, an act for the
preservation and repair of that part of the United
States Road, within the limits of the State of Maryland.

Superinten-
dant to apply
tolls, &c.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall be the duty of the superintendent
of that part of the United States Road, within the limits of
the State of Maryland, to apply one half the tolls, collected
at the toll gate, between Frostburg and Cumberland, to the
grading and paving of that part of said road, lying within
the limits of the town of Cumberland, and which has been
heretofore graded and paved, until that part of said road,
shall be graded and paved, and no longer.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That from and after the first
day of February, eighteen hundred and forty-three, the tolls
upon that part of the said road, lying between Frostburg
and Cumberland, shall be reduced one third from the rates
at present charged upon all wagons, carts or other vehicles,
loaded with with coal.
