No. 22.

Resolution in favor of Captain James M. Anderson, of the
Baltimore Invincibles.

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Adjutant General be and he is hereby directed to fur-
nish to the order of Captain James Al. Anderson, of the
Baltimore Invincibles, and Capt. James B. Ricaud, of t he Kent
Guards, each, fifty knapsacks, by his giving satisfactory
security for their safe keeping and return, provided there it
that number in the Armory.

Resolution in relation to the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal
Company.

WHEREAS it appears to this General Assembly by the an-
nual report of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Company,
bearing date December second, eighteen hundred and forty-
two, that there are various small parcels of land, remnants of
pieces, condemned or purchased for the use and benefit of
said canal company, situated along the line of said canal
which are not, and never can be required for the use of said
canal or its works, and which are covered by certain mort-
gages executed by said company to the State of Maryland;
and whereas it is believed that said parcels of land may
now be profitably disposed of by a sale of the same for the
scrip bonds and other evidences of debt of said company,
but in order to make such sales and to convey a good and
sufficient title to the purchasers thereof, it is necessary to
obtain the authority and sanction of this state — therefore,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the president and directors of the Chesapeake and Ohio
Canal Company be and they are are hereby authorized and
empowered to sell and dispose of, to the best advantage,
all such pieces or parcels of land and premises owned by
said company and conveyed by mortgages executed by said
company as aforesaid, and which are not required for the
purposes of the canal or its works, and to receive in payment
for the same the script, bonds, acceptances or other evidences
of debt of said company, and to make, execute and deliver
to the purchaser or purchasers thereof deeds of conveyance
of the same upon their compliance with the terms of sale;
